Rubik’s Cube North American Record Solve!
On Saturday, March 12, 2022, I competed at Welcome Back Portland 2022, the first competition in Oregon since the COVID pandemic started. I had a ton of fun at this competition, spending time with some of my closest friends throughout the day.
Most notably, I achieved the North American Record (NAR) for the fastest Rubik’s Cube solve. In other words, I now have the fastest Rubik’s Cube solve out of the 579 million people that live on the continent! The result was 4.22 seconds, just 0.02 below the previous NAR of 4.24.
Going into this competition, I was already very satisfied with my 3×3 personal records, so I didn’t have any concrete goals. Getting a North American Record single is easily the most unexpected surprise ever for me in cubing. I am so incredibly happy with this solve—I don’t think there’s a single thing I could’ve done better. What’s also cool to think about is that I used the same cube as the one I used at my first competition back in 2017, when I was just 10 years old! Because of this, I feel like there’s a poetic quality to my achievement!
I want to express my gratitude to my parents, brothers, and friends who’ve encouraged me to keep cubing for the past (nearly) six years and attain goals I believed impossible when I first started. Very much looking forward to seeing what the future holds.
As of March 2022, this solve places me:
5th in the world
1st in North America
1st in the United States
