Five Years of Cubing!

On Sunday, April 3rd, 2016, I got my first Rubik’s Cube from Walmart after having begged my parents for three full days. I solved it within the first two hours, and I thought that would be the end, that I would solve it once and be done forever.

Well, the opposite is true. I ended up taking this “speedcubing” hobby really far. I went to my first competition in February 2017. I competed at US Nationals that July, and even competed in Indonesia the following month. In 2019, I became sponsored by the most famous cubing retailer, TheCubicle. Thanks to cubing, I had the chance to go to Australia for the first time, and even be featured in a newspaper for the first time!

In short, the cubing has completely transformed my life over the past few years, and I mean it in the best way possible. So many of my closest friends were made through cubing competitions, and I simply can’t imagine a life without cubing.

Having been in lockdown for over a year, it feels really nice to look back and reminisce about the sixty-eight cubing competitions I’ve been to thus far. Competing, podiuming, and beating my records is fun and all, but the best part of competitions is easily the group dinners I would have with my closest friends, where we would laugh and joke all night long, having the best times of our lives. After being deprived of these moments for thirteen months, I deeply regret ever taking them for granted. I simply cannot wait to finally be able to compete again and see my friends.

To celebrate five years of cubing, I decided to compile a little montage, one that highlights some of my favorite moments over the years. I worked really hard on it and watching it makes me really happy!
